Luke 21:19 (NASB95)

19        “By your endurance you will gain your lives.

> Jesus concludes the discussion on persecution by noting that endurance leads to salvation. The Christian virtue indicates endurance, steadfastness, or perseverance. Luke mentioned it in 8:15 as a virtue associated with fruit bearing.

> This truth was foundational to Paul's thought. (Rom. 2:7; 5:3, 4; 8:25; 15:4, 5; 2 Cor. 1:6; 6:4; 12:12; Col. 1:11; 1 Thess. 1:3; 2 Thess. 1:4; 3:5; 1 Tim. 6:11; 2 Tim. 3:10; Titus 2:2).

> The rest of the New Testament affirms and expands this truth (Heb. 10:36; 12:1; James 1:3, 4; 5:11; 2 Pet. 1:6 [twice]; Rev. 1:9; 2:2, 3, 19; 3:10; 13:10; 14:12).
